Title: Comparison of the closure property of three root canal sealants in Obtura II system
Abstract: AIM: To compare the apical sealing effects of three root canal sealants with thermo-plasticized guttapercha technique.METHODS: Sixty two single root canal permanent teeth were included in this study. After crown removal and root canal preparation,56 teeth were randomly divided into four groups, with 14 in each group. The remaing 6 teeth were used as controls.Root canals in group A were filled with thermo-plasticized gutta-percha only, while root canals in group B,C and D were filled with hermo-plasticized gutta-percha plus Cortisomol,Vitapex or AH-plus respectively.Continuous-wave technique(System B) combined with ObturaⅡ system was used to fill the root canal.Microleakage was assessed by ink staining.RESULTS: No statistical difference(P0.05)of the mean depth of ink dye penetration was found among the Cortisomol,Vitapex-and AH-plus-filled groups.However,thermo-plasticized gutta-percha only group showed much higher microleakage than the other three groups(P0.05).CONCLUSION: Root filling with gutta-percha plus root sealants showed better apical sealing effects than gutta-percha filling alone.
