Title: Study on expression and clinical application of serum carbohydrate antigen CA50 of patients with colorectal cancer
Abstract: Objective To study on expression and clinical application of serum carbohydrate antigen CA50 of patients with colorectal cancer. Methods The serum CA50 levels were determined by immunoradiometric assay (IRMA) in 73 healthy adults、33 patients with benign colorectal disease and 136 patients with colorectal cancer, and serum CEA levels were determined by ELISA in patietns with colorectal cancer. Results The serum CA50 levels of patients with colorectal cancer (41.6±30.9u/ml) were significantly higher than those of healthy adults (8.9±5.5u/ml,P0.01) and patients with benign disease (11.2±7.6u/ml,P0.01).when 20u/ml was positive limit, the positive rate, specificity and efficiency for colorectal cancer was 72.1%、91.5% and 82.8%,respectively.The increase of serum CA50 levels was related with the clinical stage, recurrence and metastasis of colorectal cancer.Serum CA50 levels was positively correlated with those of CEA.Conclusions It is suggested that CA50 may be considered as one of the indicators in diagnosis and classification of the clinical stage of colorectal cancer, and values of serumal CA50 may be helpful for estimating the development of disease and prognosis for patients with colorectal cancer.
