Title: Impact of progesterone serum level during late follicular phase on in vitro fertilization, embryo development and pregnancy outcome
Abstract: Objective:To evaluate the impact of progesterone (P) serum level during late follicular phase on in vitro fertilization, embryo development and pregnancy outcome. Methods:A total of 88 cases of IVF performed in our reproductive center from January 2008 to April 2009 were analyzed retrospectively in this study.Patients were divided into two groups according to progesterone serum level on the day of hCG administration, group A (P 5.5 nmol/L,67 cases),group B (P≥5.5nmol/L,21 cases). Results:The total fertilization rate, normal fertilization rate, early cleavage rate, high quality embryo rate, implantation rate and clinical pregnancy rate in group A was much higher than that of group B (P 0.01).Conclusion:Elevated progesterone serum level during late follicular phase adversely affects in vitro fertilization and embryo development, and results in a lower implantation rate and a lower clinical pregnancy rate.
