Title: Analysis of carotid atherosclerosis plaque in patients with type 2 diabetes
Abstract: Objective To explore the characteristics of carotid atherosclerosis plaque of patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods Carotid artery was examined in 263 patients with type 2 diabetes by PHILIPS ultrasonic diagnostic device IU22 to record the characteristics of the carotid atherosclerosis plaque. Results In 263 patients, the age of the patients with carotid atherosclerosis plaque(64.46±10.18 years)was higher than those without carotid atherosclerosis plaque(55.86±10.20 years)(P0.05).A total of 236 carotid atherosclerosis plaques were found in 112 type 2 diabetes patients, including 126(53.4%) of common carotid artery plaques.Among all the plaques,52.1%(123/236) were the mixed plaque. The incidence of carotid atherosclerosis plaque in patients with type 2 diabetes and hypertension was significantly higher than that of type 2 diabetes without hypertension(73.7% vs 26.3%,P0.05).Conclusion The incidence of carotid atherosclerosis plaque increases with the aging. Most of the atherosclerosis plaques are found on the common carotid artery, and most of them are mixed plaque. The incidence of carotid atherosclerosis plaque is higher in patients with type 2 diabetes and hypertension.
