This paper analyses the complexity of the warfare system first, then from the point of view of military requirements expounds the main problems in warfare simulation applications, and finally from the viewpoint of technical development puts forward ten challenges faced us in the next generation of Distributed Warfare Simulation (DWS), namely, (1) open system architecture, (2) system expandability, (3) subsystem interoperability, (4) simulation component reusability, (5) model presentation complexity, (6) space time and logical consistency, (7) immersed human machine interactive simulation mechanism, (8) compatibility of various time management mechanism, (9) insufficiency of computer aided modeling tools, and (10) the lag behind of the theory and methodology research on DWS modeling relative to DWS practices. To resolve these problems, we propose a Federal Warfare Simulation (FWS) solution, it will be discussed in another article.Read More
