Title: Experimental Study about Flow of Liquid in Rotating Packed Bed
Abstract: A rotating packed bed (RPB), used to intensify mass transfer and chemical reaction, is a new and high-performance equipment which was developed in early eighties and has bright prospect in industries. In this paper, stroboscope, a new experimental method, was adopted for the first time to observe how liquid flows inside the RPB. The main principle of this technique is to control sensitization time of photographic plate by light impulse instead of shutter. Various flow patterns of liquid (drops, ligaments and films) in the voids of packing, the end effect zone, the shell zone and on the surface of packing and average liquid diameter, which are the fundamental data for modeling of liquid flow and mass transfer in RPB, were acquired.
