Title: The Expression of P-gp, GST-π and Topo II in breast carcinoma and its clinical significance
Abstract: Objective To investigate the expression of P-glycoprotein(P-gp),glutathione-s-transferases π(GST-π) and topoisomerase II (TopoII) in breast cancer and its clinical significance. Methods Tissue specimens were collected from 96 cases of breast cancer without preoperative chemotherapy. Expression of P-gp, GST-π and TopoII in was examined by immunohistochemistry. Results The positive expression rate of P-gp, GST-π and TopoII was 41.7%, 42.7% and 69.8% in breast cancer tissues respectively. There was significant relationship between the P-gp and tumor size, TNM stage and lymphnode metastasis (P0.05). The positive expression rate of P-gp was increased in cases with lower differentiation degree, negative expression of ER/PR and positive expression of HER2 but there were no significant differences (P0.05). The positive expression of GST-π was increased in cases with lymphnode metastasis and lower differentiation degree, but no significant differences (P0.05). The positive expression of TopoII was increased in cases with higher differentiation degree but no significant differences (P0.05). In some cases P-gp, GST-π and TopoII co-expressed in breast cancer tissues. Conclusion Detecting the expression of P-gp, GST-π and TopoII before chemotherapy may provide evidence for drug selection and disease prognosis.
