Title: Effects of ginkgo biloba extract on spatial learning and memory in dementia rats
Abstract: Objective:To investigate effects of ginkgo biloba extract(GbE)on spatial learning and memory in dementia rats. Methods:Dementia rat models were established.Normal group and model group were administered normal saline,GbE group was administered ginkgo biloba extract. The superoxide dismutase(SOD),glutathion peroxidase(GSH-Px) activities, acetylcholinesterase (AchE) activities and the malondiadehyde(MDA) content in the cerebral tissue were detected till 40days.Meanwhile the neurons of the hippocampal CA1 was observed. Results:The SOD and GSH-Px,in the GbE group increased, while the MDA content and AchE activities decreased significantly compared with the model group P0.05.The results indicated that the pathological changes of the GbE group were slighter than the model group. Conclusion:The results suggest that the administration of ginkgo biloba extract on dementia rats could increase the SOD and GSH-Px,decrease the MDA content, and AchE activities, then protecting nerve cell from oxidizing injury.
