Title: Influence of Huatan Quyu decoction on hs-CRP and MMP-9 in patients with acute ischemia stroke
Abstract: Objective To study the influence of Huatan Quyu decoction on hyper-sensitive C-reactive protein( hs-CRP) and matrix metalloproteinase-9( MMP-9) in patients with acute ischemia stroke. Methods Seventy-nine patients of acute ischemia stroke with phlegm and blood stasis obstructing meridian were included and randomly divided into a treatment group( 40 cases) and a control group( 39 cases). Regular treatment was given in the control group, while based on the treatment in the control group, the Huatan Quyu decoction was additionally used in the treatment group. The level of hs-CPR and MMP-9 were measured before the treatment and 6 days into treatment; the TCM syndrome score and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale( NIHSS) were evaluated before the treatment and 12 days into treatment. Results Six days into the treatment, the levels of hs-CPR and MMP-9 were reduced in the treatment group, which was significant compared with that in the control group( P 0. 05); 12 days into the treatment, the TCM phlegm score was reduced in the treatment group, which was significant compared with that in the control group( P 0. 05). However, there were no significant differences of TCM blood stasis score and NIHSS between the two groups( P 0. 05). Conclusion The Huatan Quyu decoction could reduce the level of hs-CPR and MMP-9 in patients of acute ischemia stroke with phlegm and blood stasis obstructing meridian, which achieves the treatment effects by relieving inflammatory injury after cerebral ischemia.
