Title: Relationship between obstructive sleep apnea hyponea syndrome and metabolic syndrome
Abstract: Objective: To discuss the morbidity of metabolic syndrome(MS) in patients with obstructive sleep apnea hyponea syndrome(OSAHS) and to investigate the correlation between severity of sleep apean and metabolic syndrome. Methods: Fifty-two patients with OSAHS were selected and divided into mild, moderate, and severe sleep apnea syndrome groups according to the results of polysomnography(PSG).The diagnosis of metabolic syndrome was made according to symptoms, physical signs, blood biochemical parameters and blood pressure. The incidence of metabolic syndrome in patients with obstructive sleep apnea hyponea syndrome of different levels was analyzed. Results: Body mass index(BMI) was significantly correlated to appnea-hypopnea index(AHI)(r=0.389).The morbidity of metabolic syndrome in moderate and severe sleep apnea syndrome groups was significantly higher than that in normals and mild sleep apnea syndrome groups. Conclusions: There is a significant positive correlation between the severity of obstructive sleep apnea hyponea syndrome and metabolic syndrome. The results suggesed that obstructive sleep apnea hyponea syndrome plays an important role in the pathogenesis of some metabolic syndrome.
