Cre/lox recombination system, which belongs to the family of site-specific recombination system including Cre/lox, FLP/frt, R/RS and Gin/gix, is one of the best characterized and most widely used system. Cre/lox system consists of Cre recombinase and 34 bp lox sites, which initially was applied in basic transgenic animal research such as gene knockout, gene activation and gene translocation. With the rapid development of biotechnology, Cre/lox system has been investigated to transgenic plants and makes impressive progress in recent years. In this paper, the advances of Cre-lox system are reviewed, providing insight of site-specific integration, site-specific excision and plant chloroplast transformation to construct environmental friendly plant genetic transformation system with high-level foreign gene expression.Read More
