Title: Effect of Valsartan on Endothelial Function and Insulin Resistance in EH Patients
Abstract: Aim To investigate the effects of Valsartan on endothelium dependent vasodilation and insulin resistance in hypertnsive patients. Methods Fasting blood glucose and insulin were measured in 32 patients with hypertension before and after 10 weeks treatment with valsartan. Endothelial function was assessed in the brachial artery by high resolution ultrasound technique before and after the treatment. Result After 10 weeks valsartan SBP and DBP wase decreased(SBP:150 6±4.6 mmHg vs 125.6±10 mmHg, DBP: 94.6±14.2 mmHg vs 80 2±6.7 mmHg P 0 Fast insulin was reduced and insulin sensitive index was increased significantly(15.6±3.2 vs 10 4± 0 5 and -4.36±0 40 vs -3.82± 0 35 P 0 05). Basic diameter and flow mediated endothelium dependent vasodilation of brachial artery was improved(3.75±0 63 mm vs 4.21±0 42 mm and 4.40±0 23 mm vs 8.54±0 55 mm, P 0 Conclsions Valsartan can effectively decrease blood pressure and improve endothelium dependent vasodilation in brachial artery and insulin resistance.
