Title: CT findings of tuberculous bronchial stenosis
Abstract: Objective To analyze the CT findings of tuberculous bronchial stenosis(TBS)and to elevate the diagnostic accuracy. Methods CT findings of 36 patients with TBS confirmed by fiberoptic bronchoscopy and histopathology were retrospectively analyzed and compared with those of 23 patients with central lung cancer confirmed by pathology. Results The study demonstrated that there were 84 involved sites of TBS in 36 patients,of whom,23 cases had 2 or more than 2 involved sites.Tuberculous foci in right lung(n=52)were more than those in left lung(n=32).The lesions of TBS mostly presented thickening of bronchial wall and narrowing of bronchial lumen of them, mild narrowing in 42 sites, moderate narrowing in 24 sites and severe narrowing in 18 sites,in addition, concentric bronchial stenosis in 50 sites. The involvement of a long segment( 3 cm)of bronchi was found in 48 sites.Nine patients complicated atelectasis.Intrapulmonary tuberculous foci were found in all patients,of whom,8 were active foci,30 complicated pleural lesions, and 19 complicated hilar and mediastinal lymphanode enlargement. Conclusion Thickening of the bronchial wall, involvement of a long segment of the bronchi, and mild to moderate concentric narrowing of the bronchial lumen are specific CT findings for TBS,simultaneously, involvement of mulfi-bronchi and coexistence of pulmonary parenchymal-pleural lesions visualized by CT are helpful for definitely diagnosing this disease.
