Title: Personality and coping style of mediumgrade criminal policeman in heilongjiang province
Abstract: ObjectiveTo study the criminal policemen’s personality and coping styles. MethodsA cross-section study of 236 mediumgrade criminal policemen in Heilongjiang were performed to examine personality and coping styles using the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ) and Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire(SCSQ).ResultsThe police officers’psychoticism scores(P) were significantly lower than that in norm ( t = 8.60 , P 0.01). The police officers’ extrovert scores(E) and neurotic scores(N) were significantly higher than that in norm( t _ E =12.18, P 0.01; t _ N =5.14, P 0.01). Compared with the norm’s scores in each age group, the police officers’P scores were significantly lower( P 0.05), E scores were significantly higher( P 0.05), N scores were significantly higher in 40 to 49 age group( P 0.01).The subjects’positive coping-style scores were significantly higher than that in norm ( t =6.00, P 0.01), their negative coping-style scores were significantly lower than that in norm( t =-3.63, P 0.01). Psychoticism was negatively and significantly related to positive coping styles( r =-0.20, P 0.01) and positively and significantly related to negative coping styles( r =0.23, P 0.01 ). The extroversion was positively and significantly associated with positive coping styles( r =0.23, P 0.01 ).The neuroticism was positively and significantly associated with negative coping styles( r =0.20, P 0.01 ).ConclusionIt’s suggested that personality and coping styles of the mediumgrade criminal policeman in Heilongjiang which have their characteristics of occupation are obviously different from the general people's.
