Title: Correlation study on mental health and coping style of patients with occupational noise-induced deafness
Abstract: Objective To analyze the status of mental health and coping style in patients with occupational noise-induced deafness( ONID),and to discuss their correlation. Methods Totally 99 patients with ONID were selected as subjects by random sampling. The Symptom Checklist 90( SCL-90) and simplified coping style questionnaire( SCSQ) were used to survey the cases, and the relationship between the two scales was analyzed. Results Among 96 patients with ONID,63cases showed screening positive, accounting for 65. 62%. The total score of SCL-90,and the factor scores of somatization, obsession, depression, anxiety, fear and psychoticism in these patients were higher than those of the national norms respectively( P 0. 05). Compared with the occupational disease patients' norms in Guangdong province, the total score of SCL-90,and the factor scores of somatization, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety, hostility and crankiness in these patients were lower respectively, and the score of psychoticism was higher( P 0. 01). The SCSQ factor scores of positive coping style and passive coping style were lower than those of the national norms respectively( P≤0. 01),and the score of passive coping style was lower than the positive one. Except the factor score of somatization and anxiety in these patients, the total score of SCL-90,the other 7 factor scores were positively correlated with the score of passive coping style respectively( P≤0. 01). However,no significant correlation was found between the total score of SCL-90,the other 7 factor scores and the score of positive coping style( P 0. 05). Logistic regression analysis showed that the screening positive of SCL-90 was concerned with the using of passive coping style( Odds ratio: 4. 15,95% confidence interval: 1. 64-10. 52,P 0. 01),but it was not concerned with the using of positive coping style( P 0. 05). Conclusion Patients with ONID still have poor mental health level. Passive coping style had a greater influence on their mental health level. The metal intervention and health education should be implemented to improve their mental health level.
