Title: The Function of Double-Stranded RNA in Gene Silencing
Abstract: The homology dependent gene silencing was introduced. It is sequence specific inhibition of corresponding endogenous gene expression induced by foreign nucleic acid molecules. Gene silencing includes transcriptional gene silencing and post transcriptional gene silencing. They are both directed by double stranded RNA. And gene silencing is a common gene regulation mechanism against virus invasion and activation of transposable elements, which are widespread in nearly all eukaryotic organisms. It will have invaluable importance in the future.
