Title: Application of the Combined Determination of Serum Procalcitionin and C-reactive Protein in Neonate with Infection
Abstract: Objective:To evaluate the clinical value of the combined determination of serum procalcitonin(PCT)and C reactive protein(CRP)in the diagnosis and curative effect in neonate with infection.Methods:60 infants in our hospital from 2008 to 2010 with bacterial infection were enrolled in the study which were classified into serious infection group and local infection group.Serum PCT and CRP levels and their dynamic change were measured, and the results were analyzed and compared with those of non-infection group. Results:The mean value of PCT and CRP concentrations in serious infection group were 25.3μg/L and 24.3mg/L.In local infection group, the mean value were 3.5μg/L and 15mg/L respectively, and there were statistical significance compared to non-infection group(P0.001,0.001);After the antibiotic treatment, the levels of PCT and CRP decreased significantly(P0.001);The sensitivity of PCT was similar with that of CRP(93.3%),the specificity of PCT(83.3%)was better than that of CPR(63.3%).Conclusion:The conbined determination of PCT and CRP assists the early diagnosis and prognosis of bacterial infection in neonate. The specificity of PCT was better than that of CRP.Monitoring dynamically PCT level will help to evaluate the curative effect.
