Title: Clinical effects of local application of Minocycline hydrochloride sustained-release pellicle in moderate-severe periodontitis
Abstract: Objective:To evaluate the clinical effect of local application of minocycline-HCL sustained-release pellicle as the auxiliary treatment of moderatesevere chronic periodontitis.Method:A randomized, blind, splitmouth study was designed.Following initial therapy minocycline-HCL S.R.pellicle was administered into the periodontal pocket of treatment sides at baseline, but the conthol sides had no drug.Standard clinical indices(including PLI,SBI and PD) and response to S.R.pellicle were evaluated at basedline, week 2 and week 6.Result:Except PLI,indices of both groups showed significant improvement(P0.05) on week 2 and week 6 compared with baseline. In the test group, all indices improved significantly at week 6 than week 2 except PLI.Sides treated with minocycline-HCL S.R.pellicle always produced statistically significantly reduction(P0.01) of SBI and PD than the control sides, but PLI of the two groups showed no difference. No side-effect had been found after administered S.R.pellicle.Conclusion:Administration of the local drug delivery system of minocycline-HCL S.R.pellicle as the auxiliary treatment of moderate-severe chronic periodontitis could get good clinical results.
