Title: Relationship between opening of collateral circulation and clinical manifestations in patients with stenosis or occlusion of ICA
Abstract: Objective To analyze the relationship between opening of the collateral circulation and clinical manifestations during stenosis or occlusion of internal carotid artery. Methods Eighty-six patients with stenosis or occlusion of internal carotid artery detected by transcranial Doppler (TCD) and checked by digital subtraction angiography were selected. The patients were divided into four groups according to the opening situation of the collateral circulation:the group of opening 3 collateral circulation(Group 1),the group of opening anterior or posterior communicating collateral circulation(Group 2),the group of opening ophthalmic artery collateral circulation (Group 3),the group of no collateral circulation opening(Group 4).The situation of opening of collateral circulation in each group was analyzed and compared. Results Compared with the symptoms of opening collateral circulation of ophthalmic artery, the symptoms of opening anterior communicating artery and posterior communicating artery were milder and prognosis was better. Conclusion TCD measures the collateral circulation of stenosis or occlusion of internal carotid artery sensitively and specifically. The situation of opening of collateral circulation is closely related with prognosis. The evaluation of collateral circulation has important clinical significance.
