Title: Clinical Analysis of 10 Patients with Bilateral Severe Carotid Stenosis or Occlusion
Abstract: Aim To investigate the clinical features of the bilateral carotid artery severe stenosis or occlusion. Methods The data of 10 patients with bilateral artery stenosis or occlusion were analyzed retrospectively on clinical features and blood flow compensation. Results In all 10 patients, there were 2 cases with bilateral carotid occlusion or internal carotid artery, 5 cases with bilateral carotid artery severe stenosis, 3 cases with one side severe carotid stenosis with contralateral occlusion. There were 5 cases with posterior circulation ischemia, 3 cases with posterior circulation ischemia accompanied with anterior circulation ischemia and 2 cases anterior circulation ischemia. Digital subtraction angiography(7 cases) demonstrated that anterior communicating artery was open in 4 cases and posterior communicating artery open in 7 cases. Conclusion Posterior circulation ischemia is more common in patients with bilateral severe carotid artery stenosis or occlusion, posterior communicating artery may be a main collateral branch compensation.
