Title: Changes of left ventricular diastolic functions in super aged hypertensive patients by irbesartan treatment
Abstract: Objective To investigate the effects of irbesartan treatment on left ventricular diastolic dysfunction(LVDD) in super aged hypertensive patients over 80 years old for twelve weeks.Method Fifty super aged hypertensive patients with LVDD were treated with irbesartan of 150 mg qd over 12 weeks.Left ventricular diastolic function was determined by Doppler echocardiography before and after treatment.Left atrium diameter(LAD),E peak velocity(E),A peak velocity(A) and E/A were measured respectively. Results After the treatment of irbesartan for 12 weeks,LAD decreased(P0.05) and VA decreased significantly(P0.01),whereas VE and E/A increased significantly(P0.01).Conclusion Irbesartan may significantly improve the left ventricular diastolic function in super aged hypertensive patients.
