Title: Effects of Irbesartan on left ventricular hypertrophy and diastolic function in elderly patients with hypertension
Abstract: Objective: To observe the effect of Irbesartan on left ventricular hypertrophy and left ventricular diastolic function in elderly patients. Methods: 78 cases of elderly patients with left ventricular hypertrophy were given Irbesartan 150 mg once daily for 32 weeks.left ventricular diastolic diameter(LVDd),left ventricalar septal thick(IVST),left ventricular posterior wall thick(LVPWT),left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF),left ventricular mass index(LVMI),the ratio of peak flow velocity in early diastolic to that at atrial contraction(E/A) were measured by Doppler echocardiography. Results: After 12 months treatment, blood pressure(SBP/DBP),LVDd,IVST,LVPWT and LVMI decreased significantly(P0.05),LVEF,E/A increased significantly(P0.05).Conclusion: Irbesartan not only can decrease the hypertension and remodel the hypertrophied ventricle, but also improve left ventricular diastolic function.
