Title: Clinical Efficacy of Auricular Acupuncture as Adjuvant Therapy for Type 2 Diabetes with Deficiency of Both Qi and Yin:A Report of 50 Cases in Community
Abstract: Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of auricular acupuncture as an adjuvant therapy for type 2diabetes with deficiency of both qi and yin. Methods One hundred type 2diabetes patients with deficiency of both qi and yin were randomly divided into control group(n=50)and intervention group(n=50).Both groups were given diet and exercise guidance and oral antidiabetic drugs;additionally, the intervention group received auricular acupuncture as an adjuvant therapy for 12weeks.Before and after treatment, traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndrome scores, fasting blood glucose(FPG),2-hour postprandial glucose(2hPG),hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c),triacylglycerol(TG),total cholesterol(TC),lowdensity lipoprotein(LDL),and body weight were determined. Results The intervention group had a significantly more improvement in TCM syndrome than the control group. At the end of 12-week treatment, the intervention group showed significant decreases in TCM syndrome scores,FPG,2hPG,HbA1c,TC,TG,and LDL(P0.01),but the control group showed no significant changes in the above parameters(P0.05).Conclusion As an adjuvant therapy, auricular acupuncture can significantly reduce deficiency of both qi and yin, regulate blood glucose and lipids, and decrease body weight in diabetic patients.
