Abstract: A chiral resolving reagent n-butyl L-tartrate was prepared from L-tartaric acid and n-butanol,using p-toluene sulfonic acid and toluene as a catalyst and a solvent,by refluxing for about 5h.The structure was confirmed by IR.The effect of molar ratio of reactants, amount of solvent and catalyst, and the stir speed on the yield were discussed by orthogonal test. The optimum reaction conditions were as follows: the molar ratio of L-tartaric acid and n-butanol at 1.0∶2.8,p-toluene sulfonic acid at 0.5g,toluene at 50mL and stirring at slow speed.Under the optimum condition, the yield of n-butyl L-tartrate was over 93% and the esterification rate was about 99%.
