Title: Survey on smoking and secondhand smoking in 200 public places of Jiading District,Shanghai
Abstract: Objective To investigate the status of smoking and secondhand smoking,and public attitude to no smoking in public places after Shanghai Public Smoking Control Regulations(referred as to Regulations in following) was implemented for one year in Jiading District.Methods By convenience sampling method,200 public places were selected and interceptor investigation was carried out by personnel questionnaire.4008 persons were investigated,2053 male and 1955 female.Results The rate of smoking was 26.2% in all respondents,and there were significant differences among gender and age(χ2=1658.5,P0.01;χ2=264.4,P0.01).Passive smoking rate was 41.4%.3675 respondents(91.7%) knew Regulations.As for no smoking in public places,3541(88.3%) respondents thought that it need implement no-smoking in public places.Gender,age,smoking,passive smoking,smoking hazards and knowledge about the Regulations were related to implementation no-smoking in public places,and the odds ratios were 1.42,1.37,0.33,0.44,1.70 and 2.46 respectively.Conclusion After Regulations implementation a year later,preliminary intervention made effective work on no smoking.Continue health education and combined with the one other related provisions smoking control need to be carried out to strengthen the enforcement of the law.
