Title: Establishment of Cardiopulmonary Bypass Model in Rats
Abstract: Objective To determine the feasibility of establishing the cardiopulmonary bypass ( CPB) model in rats. Methods The tail artery serving as the arterial inflow and the right jugular vein as the venous drainage for the CPB circuit, we established the normothermic CPB model in SD rats. During the process of CPB for 1h, the physiological parameters were analyzed and compared with those of the controls. Results It is feasible to establish the normothermic CPB model in SD rats. The rats remained alive during CPB with a high flow rate (200ml·min-1·kg-1). The rats were prone to suffer metabolic acidosis during CPB and could not survive for a long time after CPB because of severe haemodilution. Conclusion It is feasible to establish the normothermic CPB model in rats without blood primes, however, the rats could not live for a long time.
