Title: Efficacy and safety of glimepiride in the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
Abstract: Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of do mestic glimepiride (Putangping) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, in comparison with that of glimepiride (Amary1).Methods: After a two-week washout period, 56 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were randomized into two groups ,Group A and Group B,receiving Putangping and Amary1 respectively for 8 weeks. Results: At endpoint, fasting plasma glucose (FPG),two-hour postprandial plasma glucose(PPG) and HbA1c decreased significantly in both Group A and Group B(P<0.001). Changes of FPG and HbA1c from baseline to endpoint between the two groups were similar (P>0.05),but PPG decreased from baseline to endpoint in Group B exceeded that in Group A (P<0.05). Fasting and postprandial insulin in both groups increased after the treatment, which was especially obvious for postprandial insulin (P<0.001).There were no meaningful difference in C-peptide, lipoprotein, hepatic and renal function in the two groups after the trea tment. No hypoglycemia occurred. The incidence of dizziness was similar in both groups .Conclusion: Glimepiride (Petangping) is safe and effective for the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
