Title: Drug susceptibility analysis of 122 Klebsiella pneumoniae strains isolated from children
Abstract: AIM To investigate the resistance of 122 Klebsiella pneumoniae clinical strains isolated from children in 2007.METHODS According to National Committee for Clinical Laboratary Standards(2005),the clinical isolates were identified and their antimicrobial susceptibility was tested by VITEK-32 automatic identification microbiological analysis system.RESULTS One hundred and twenty-two Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated including 62 extended-spectrum β-lactamases producing strains(ESBLs) were identified. The incidence of Klebsiella pneumoniae producing ESBLs was 50.82%.All the ESBLs-producing strains were susceptible to imipenem and cefoxitin. They showed variant resistances to most other antibiotics.CONCLUSION It is important to determine the ESBLs-producing strains and select antibiotics on the basis of the results of susceptibility test.Imipenem and cefoxitin are the effective antibiotics to infections caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae ESBLs producing strains.
