Title: Dissimilar aluminium alloy lap welding with friction stir welding
Abstract: A 4 mm thick plate of LF5 aluminum alloy and two 2 mm thick plates of 6063 aluminum alloy were lapped and butted to a composite joint of dissimilar aluminum alloys for friction stir welding test. The optimization of welding parameters was completed to gain welds of high quality. It was investigated that the influence of pin rotation speed and side-play amount on the tensile strength of the composite joint. It was observed of welds macrostructure, onion rings microstructure,weld-defects.The migration behavior of lap interface on one side was inspected. After the optimization of friction stir welding parameters, the highest weld tensile strength was 72% of that in 6063 aluminum alloy.
