Title: Expression of metalloproteinase-2 mRNA and E-cadherin mRNA in gastric carcinoma tissue
Abstract: Aim: To evaluate the expression of metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2)mRNA and E-cadherin (E-CD ) mRNA in gastric carcinoma tissues. Methods: The MMP-2 mRNA and E-CD mRNA were detected by hybridization in situ in 72 cases of gastric carcinoma, among which, 39 were recurrent cases. Results: The MMP-2 mRNA and E-CD mRNA levels were associated with invasive depth and lymph node metastasis. Compared with nonrecurrent group (30.4%),the MMP-2 mRNA expression was much higher in recurrent gastric carcinoma, which included recurrent specimen group (84.6%) and recurrent bioptic specimen group (92.3%)(P0.05). The E-CD mRNA expression in bioptic specimen group(12.8%) was lower than that in non-recurrent group(33.3%)(P0.05). The E-CD mRNA expression in MMP-2 mRNA positive gastric carcinoma tissue was much lower than that in negative carcinoma tissue. Conclusion: Expression of MMP-2 mRNA and E-CD mRNA is associated with invasion, metastasis and recurrence of gastric carcinoma. Detection of MMP-2 mRNA and E-CD mRNA in bioptic specimens may be helpful in predicting tumor metastatic and recurrent potential and prognosis for patients with gastric carcinoma.
