Title: Yu Kuang-chung's Drama Translation Practice:A Case Study of The Importance of Being Earnest
Abstract: Yu Kwang-chung's translation thought derives from his literary creation. He holds that translation is closely related to creation, but it is a limited creation and a flexible art.Taking as an example the translation of The Importance of Being Earnest, one of Wilde's most successful plays, this paper demonstrates his translation principle of translating the original meaning instead of the original text.As regards his translation strategies,he never sticks to one strategy but employs a variety of strategies, including free translation, conversion, repetition, division and flexible use of Chinese idioms and antithetical couplets.
