Title: Factors determining serologic response to treatment in patients with syphilis
Abstract: Objective To analyze factors determining the response to treatment in pateints with syphilis.Methods Clinical data of 359 patients with clinical and laboratory diagnosed syphilis were retrospectively analyzed.These 359 syphilitic cases all had visited the Sexually Transmitted Disease Clinic of Peking Union Medical College Hospital from Jan 2001 to Nov 2008.The correlation between prognosis and factors including gender,age,original rapid plasma regain test(RPR) titer,disease course,and medications were analyzed.Results Of the 359 syphilitic patients,71 had primary syphilis,146-secondary syphilis,74-early latent,68 were in late latent period.Serologic cure rates were significantly associated with younger age(50 years: 85.1%;≥50 years: 66.7%;P0.05) and early stage(Primary:97.2%;Secondary:82.2%;Early latent:71.6%;Late latent:63.2%;P0.01).We found no statistically significant difference among sex groups,original RPR titer and medications.Conclusion Early and regular treatment to patients with syphilis could significantly improve their prognosis.
