Title: Variable Frequency Chilled Water Pump: Efficiency Test and Analysis
Abstract: Some parameters of a sampled variable frequency chilled water pump (VFCWP) were measured in four operating circumstances. Based on these data, the efficiencies such as the wire-to-water efficiency, variable-frequency-drive (VFD) efficiency, integrated efficiency of pump-and-motor, hydraulics efficiency ratio and volumetric efficiency ratio of the variable frequency chilled water pump were obtained. The principle of efficiencies varying with operating frequency or speed was summarized. Measurements and analyses show that the wire-to-water efficiency of VFCWP should not be taken as a constant to calculate the energy consumption of VFCWP controlled by a pre-set differential pressure. Furthermore, controlling method or operating circumstances have effect on efficiencies of VFCWP.
