Title: Effects of carvedilol on endothelial function in patients with unstable angina pectoris
Abstract: Objective To observe the effect of carvedilol on the serum levels of endothelin (ET),nitric oxide (NO) and von Willebrand factor (vWF) in patients with unstable angina pectoris (UAP).Methods 62 patients with UAP were randomly divided into two groups. On the basis of antiplatelet and vasodilator therapy,30 patients in control group were given metoprolol, while 32 patients in treatment group were administered with carvedilol. Before and after treatment, venous blood sample was taken, and the levels of serum ET-1,NO,and vWF were detected. Results There was no significant difference in the levels of ET,NO and vWF between control group and treatment group before treatment. After treatment, the levels of ET,vWF in control group and treatment group were significantly lower than those before treatment, howerer, the levels of NO in both groups were higher than those before treatment (P0.05).After treatment, the levels of ET in treatment group were significantly lower than those of control group, and the levels of NO was higher than those of control group. Conclusion Carvedilol can decrease the serum levels of ET and vWF in patients with UAP,and increase serum levels of NO.
