Title: The Expressions of Matrix Metalloproteinase-3 and Tissue Inhibitor of Metalloproteinase-2 in Squamous Cell Carcinoma of Lung Tissue and Their Clinical Significance
Abstract: Objective To explore the expressions of matrix metalloproteinase(MMP)-3 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase(TIMP)-2 in squamous cell carcinoma of lung tissue and their clinical significance. Methods The expressions of MMP-3 and TIMP-2 in 96 patients with squamous cell carcinoma of lung tissue and 20 normal epithelial tissues of the lung were detected by immunohistchemical SP method. Results The positive rates of MMP-3 and TIMP-2 in the 96 cases of lung squamous cell carcinoma were 81.3% and 51.0% respectively, which were significantly higher than those of normal bronchial epithelial tissues of the lung(25.0% and 15.0%).The expression levels of MMP-3 and TIMP-2 in the tissue of lung squamous cell carcinoma with lymph node metastasis were obviously higher than those in lung squamous cell carcinoma tissue without lymph node metastasis(P 0.01).The expression level of MMP-3 rose with the increase of clinical stage(P 0.01);the expression level of TIMP-2 in advanced(Ⅲ) carcinoma had a downward trend compared with earlier stages(Ⅰ + Ⅱ),but the difference was not statistically significant(P 0.05).The expression levels of MMP-3 and TIMP-2 had no significant correlation(r= 0.095,P 0.05).The expression level of MMP-3 increased but the expression level of TIMP-2 decreased in squamous cell carcinoma of lung tissue with lymph node metastasis compared with that without lymph node metastasis. The expression levels of MMP-3 and TIMP-2 were negatively correlated(r=0.294,P 0.05).Conclusions Over expressions of MMP-3 and TIMP-2 are closely correlated with the progression, node metastasis and clinical stage(TNM) of lung squamous cell carcinoma.Determination of lung squamous cell carcinoma in the expressions of MMP-3 and TIMP-2 is of great significance in forecasting the invasion and metastasis of lung squamous cell carcinoma, judging the risk of recurrence, and they probably become the markers of biological prognosis of lung squamous cell carcinoma.
