Title: Calculation of Temperature Distribution of Larger Evaporative Cooling Turbo-generator With Forced Inner Cooling System
Abstract: Evaporative cooling for generator stator is an independent innovative technology developed by China. The development of the technology is in research stage. The mechanism of applying phase transition for evaporative cooling of the generator stator was introduced. Then based on the 300 MW turbo-generator design specification, the paper prov- ided the calculation results such as the two phase flow resistance using the separate phase calculation model and the evaporative point using the heat conservation equation. Through iterative calculation, the paper also got the results such as the position of the evaporative point and temperatures along the winding during the liquid phase and liquid-gas phase. Analysis of the calculation and the experiments demonstrates that the phase transition cooling is better than the specific heat cooling. Moreover, the calculation and the experiment also demonstrate how to control the evaporative position and prevent gas resistance overload from adjusting the flow flux. The calculations provided establish a theoretical base for applying evaporative cooling technology on large size turbine generator stator cooling.
