Title: Relationships among Mother’s Parenting Style and Preschoolers’ Behavior Problems,Peer Interaction
Abstract: Objective: To explore the direct and indirect effects of mother’s parenting style on preschoolers’ peer interaction.Methods: Parenting Behavior Questionnaire,Children’s Behavior Checklist and Peer Nomination were used to investigate 260 4-to 6-year-old preschoolers and their mothers.Results: ①Authoritarian parenting style was positively correlated to preschoolers’ internalized and externalized behaviors,authoritative parenting style was negatively correlated to internalized and externalized behaviors.② Preschoolers’ externalized behavior was positively correlated to peer rejection,and was not correlated to peer acceptance.③ Authoritarian parenting style was negatively related to preschoolers’ peer acceptance,and was positively related to peer rejection;authoritative parenting style was not related to preschoolers’ peer acceptance and peer rejection.④Preschoolers’ externalized behavior had completely mediating effect on the relationship between authoritarian parenting style and preschoolers’ peer rejection.Conclusion: Authoritarian parenting style had indirect effect on preschoolers’ peer rejection through preschoolers’ externalized behavior.
