Title: The Subject and Object in the Construction of Linguistic Meaning
Abstract: The speaker and hearer are the subjects in the construction of linguistic meaning. Their experiences in the world, social and cultural backgrounds and their views of the situation of communication are sure to be represented in their utterances and their understanding of such utterances, and play an important role in the construction of the structure and meaning of utterances. The meaning of an expression is thus decided by both its conceptual content and the way in which it is understood. Linguistic meaning is constructed by both the subject and object of conceptualization.
