Title: Observations on the Therapeutic Effect of Acupuncture on Hiccups After Abdominal Surgery
Abstract: Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture in treating hiccups after abdominal surgery.Methods Seventy-two patients with hiccups after abdominal surgery were randomly allocated to treatment,control and combination groups,24 cases each.The treatment group received acupuncture at bilateral points Zusanli,Hegu,Neiguan and Taichong;the control group,an intramuscular injection of methylphenidate;the combination group,acupuncture followed by an intramuscular injection of methylphenidate.Results There was a statistically significant difference in the total efficacy rate between the treatment and control groups(P0.01) but no between the treatment and combination groups(P0.05).Conclusions Acupuncture is an effective way to treat hiccups after abdominal surgery.
