Title: Analysis of continuous rainfall conditions on stability of unsaturated soil slope
Abstract: The effect of negative pore-water pressure(suction) is often ignored in slope stability studies.Based on the theory of infiltration and seepage through an unsaturated soil system, transient numerical analyses for an engineering case of slope instability caused by the loss of soil suction under the condition of continuous rainfall were conducted. The results of the analysis showed that the unsaturated soil suction has an important effect on the stability of unsaturated soil slope. The suction profile depends on the magnitude of the flux, frequency, duration of rainfall and evapotranspiration. For engineering practice, monitor of the soil suction is of great importance in maintaining slope stability.
