Title: An Analysis of the Stability of Arch Dam Abutment Slope by the Block Theory
Abstract: During the construction process and the operation process of the dam abutment for the hydropower station,the natural stress state of the rock mass is destroyed,with the slope excavation and the dam operation.The block will move wholly or partially,and it will do great harm to the construction process and the dam operation process.This paper takes the arch dam abutment slope of the Wanjiakouzi Hydropower Station as an example.By analyzing space combination of different structural planes,the key blocks can be found.With the 3-D limit equilibrium method,the safety factor of stability for each key block under different working conditions,including normal condition,rainfall condition,earthquake condition,can be calculated.Based on the design criteria of arch dam abutment,the stability of each key block can be evaluated.Based on the unstable blocks,the advisory scheme of anchor cables is provided.
