Title: Clinical efficacy of a combined pneumatic and ultrasound lithotripsy during percutaneous nephrolithotomy
Abstract: Objective To define the safety and efficacy of a combined pneumatic and ultrasound lithotripsy during percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Methods From Oct 2004 to Mar 2005,34 renal units in 28 patients underwent percutaneous nephrolithotomy using a combined pneumatic and ultrasound lithotrite.Clinical data were analyzed retrospectively. Results The average time for whole surgery was 85 min and the time for complete stone clearance was 60 min,the rate of stone clearance was(91.1%),and 4 cases had a residual stone smaller than 1 cm due to an inaccessible location, and accessory therapy of ESWL was performed for the above 4 patients. No surgical complications occurred during lithotripsy after 1 to 3 month follow-up.Conclusion The lithotripsy of combining pneumatic and ultrasound is a safe and effective, easy and invasive operation for managing large and complex renal calculi.
