Title: Expression and clinical significance of PTEN gene in breast cancer
Abstract: Objective To investigative the correlation between the expression level of PTEN with its various clinic pathological types,TNM stage of breast cancer. Methods The expression of PTEN in 32 cases of breast cancer was detected by immunohistochemistry S-P method. Results Positive expression of PTEN was found in all normal breast tissues.Of the 13 cases (41 %) of breast cancer negative for the PTEN protein expression,8 cases (61.5 %) were negative for estrogen and progesterone receptor. While in 19 cases positive for the PTEN protein expression, one 4 cases (21.1 %) were positive for the PTEN protein expression. The expression level of PTEN in mammary infiltrative tumor with axillary lymph node metastasis was remarkably lower than that without axillary lymph node metastasis (P0.001).The expression level of PTEN in the patients negative for ER was significantly lower than in those positive for ER (P0.05).Expression level of PTEN was not related to age, tumor size, progesterone receptor and clinical stage. However,as increasing of clinical stage, the expression level of PTEN was declined. Conclusion The loss expression of PTEN protein is associated with axillary lymph node metastasis and steroid receptor hormonal loss.
