Title: Effects of levo-amlodipine and simvastatin on blood pressure and left ventricular hypertrophy in hypertensive patients
Abstract: Objective To observe the effects of simvastatin on blood pressure and left ventricular mass index(LVMI)in hypertensive patients. Methods One hundred and fifty-six hypertensive patients, receiving levo-amlodipine(2.5mg/d) as basic antihypertensive regimen, were randomly divided into the experimental group and the control group. And simvastatin(20mg/d) was added to the experimental group.Blood pressure before and after treatment was observed;myocardial hypertrophy degree was assessed by ultrasound echocardiography before and 12-month after treatment. Results Before treatment, there were no differences on blood pressure, blood lipids, parameters of color Doppler ultrasound(P0.05).After 12 months, significant reductions of systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure were observed in the experimental group as compared with those in the control group(P0.05).In the meanwhile,IVST,LVPW and LVMI were significantly decreased in the experimental group(P0.05).Conclusions Lamlodipine combined with simvastatin have synergistic effects on reducing blood pressure and reversal of left ventricular hypertrophy of essential hypertension, which are more significant than those of the single antihypertensive regimen.
