Title: An Aesthetic Perspective to English Sentence Structure
Abstract: The aesthetics of English sentence structure originates from the communicators' combination of language form and meaning, which is in turn driven by communicative and aesthetic function of language. Sometimes people even breakthrough the original structure, and create language variation and semantic combination to express what they want. A pertinent example is oxymoron, which embodies communicative and aesthetic function of language and reflects people's cognitive activity with cognitive motivation. From the perspective of psycho-linguistics,which is based on aesthetics and cognitive psychology, this paper tries to analyze the aesthetic forms of steadiness, balance, rhythm, contrast and harmonization in English sentence structure, and it also explores their roles in discourse from angles of semantic feature and pragmatic function. Finally,it touches upon reproduction of aesthetic value in translation.
