Title: Comparison of short-term effect of temperature controlled radiofrequency and uvulopalatopharyngoplasty for obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the short-term effect and postoperative complications of temperature controlled radiofrequency(TCRF) and uvulopalatopharyngoplasty(UPPP) in patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS) in initial stage. Methods 60 cases with OSAHS in initial stage according to the Friedman M clinical staging system were randomly divided into two groups equally.30 cases were treated with TCRF and the other 30 were treated with UPPP.Polysomnography(PSG) was performed for all cases within 6 months after operation. The preoperative and postoperative indexes of PSG and postoperative complications between the two groups were compared and analyzed statistically. Results The differences in clinical symptom elimination and effect indexes of PSG were insignificant statistically. The incidence rates of severe postoperative complications such as the change of speach function and velopharyngeal insufficiency weren't different between the two groups. But the differences in some postoperative symptoms such as postoperative pain, normal diet recovery, postoperative bleeding, and the feeling of foreign body in pharynx between the two groups were obviously distinctive. Conclusion For OSAHS patients in initial stage,TCRF has equal efficacy with less postoperative compared with UPPP.
