Title: Preparation of Fe - Co - C Amorphous Powders by Mechanical Alloying
Abstract: In this article, a series of Fe - Co - C amorphous powders can be made by mechanical alloying. The samples of alloy powders were collected during the ball milling process. By X - ray diffraction it was observed that part of the alloy powders starts to become amorphous phase after milling ball 15 to 20 hours and the crystal grain sizes of the alloy powders became smaller with the increasing of milling-time. The conclusion of the studies reveals that the formation of amorphous material can be promoted by adding C into Fe - Co alloy. Fe60Co20C20 and Fe40 Co40 C20 amorphous powders can be made under certain mechanical alloying conditions. A series of amorphous materials with different grain sizes can be made if the time of milling ball is controlled properly during the process of milling ball.
