Title: Significance and expression of HIF-1α in pancreatic carcinoma
Abstract: Objective:To detect the expression of hypoxia inducible factor-1α(HIF-1α)in pancreatic carcinoma and investigate the relationship with clinicopathologic features and prognosis of pancreatic carcinoma. Methods: Immunohistochemistry staining was used to detect expression of HIF-1α in 48 cases of pancreatic carcinomas and 5 cases of normal pancreases tissues. The relationship and clinical significance of HIF-1α expression in pancreatic cancer were analyzed. Results: The positivity rate of HIF-1α in pancreatic carcinomas was 52.1%(25/48).No HIF-1α expression was detected in 5 cases of normal pancreases tissues. The positivity rate of HIF-1α in pancreatic carcinomas was significantly higher than that in normal pancreases tissues(P0.01).HIF-1α protein expression was closely correlated with tumor size(P=0.015)and TNM stage(P=0.021),and was negative correlated with prognosis(10.4% vs 4.0%,P=0.027),rather than position and pathological grading. Conclusion: High expression of HIF-1α plays a considerable role in development of pancreatic carcinoma.HIF-1α may be a useful marker for evaluating prognosis in pancreatic cancer.
