Title: Heavy Metal Pollution in Sediments of Sancha Lake in Sichuan Province and Relevant Human Activities
Abstract: Investigation of characteristics of lake's sediments in terms of spatial and vertical distribution of heavy metals can help reveal the pollution history and the sources. With the information obtained from 210Pb,137Cs dating and grain size analysis, the relationship between heavy metals(Cu,Zn,Cr and Pb)in sediments of Sancha Lake in Sichuan Province and human activities in the catchment areas was elucidated in this paper. The investigation showed that human activities not only enhanced the deposition but also aggravated enrichment of heavy metals in sediments. Concretely,Cu and Zn were strongly associated with the aquaculture in the lake and Cr was likely from agricultural activities in the catchment, whereas Pb mostly due to the offshore traffic. In addition,it was found that concentrations of heavy metals in sediments are strongly correlated to the proportion of sediments' grain sizes(bigger than 64μm),which might explain the phenomenon regarding the changes of heavy metal characters in the sediments during the years when inundation occurred.
