Title: EFFECT OF BMP-7 ON CEREBRAL ISCHEMIA REPERFUSION INJURY DUE TO AMELIORATING OXIDATIVE STRESS IN RATS
Abstract: Objective To investigate the protective effect of bone morphogenetic protein-7(BMP-7)on focal cerebral ischemia reperfusion(I-R)injury in rats. Methods Sixty adult male Wistar rats were equally randomized to three groups as: sham-operated group,I-R group, and BMP-7 group.A model of I-R was created in rats by a middle cerebral artery occlusion. The effect of BMP-7 on neurological deficits, infarction volume of brain, content of malondialdehyde(MDA),activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD)and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-PX)were observed. Results Compared with the I-R group, neurological deficits score in BMP-7 group decreased(t=2.33,P0.05),infarction volume of brain reduced(t=5.51,P0.05),the content of MDA declined(F=33.99,42.94;q=6.59,6.16;P0.05),the active of SOD and GPX-PX improved(F=22.19-68.11,q= 9.41-16.25,P0.05). Conclusion BMP-7 has a protective effect on cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury by reducing the free radicals and oxidative damage.
